Oct Article
Firstly, I'ld like to apologise to members for no article last month
some blip in the system.
I do send e-mails out through the month,
but if you're
not on my list and want to give me a ring now and again to keep up with
what we are doing please do so.
So, whats been happening ?
As a last minute event, due to the ever changing weather forecast, I sent
out an email (sorry to those that are not on my list or haven?t got email)
to see if anyone was interested in a lunchtime visit to The Goat Inn at
Hertford Heath to see a selection of classic cars. We went last year and
it seemed worth a revisit. 10 cars met up at the Little Chef at Marstaine
Mortaine, a cup of coffee and a chat then a nice leisurely blast down to
Hertford Heath. No one was disappointed with the cars that turned out,
a good mix of classic and modern, enough to keep us there for about 3½ hours.
That did include the lunch, the sunshine (and the intake of alcohol for
those not driving).
One of our main events of the year is the charity day at Bruntingthorpe
organised by staff at Asda and supported by the company. It first took
place to raise money for a children?s Hospice near Leicester where a company
employee's child died through cancer. What was a small affair has now moved
up several notches and has several thousand people attending. All employees
and their invited guests. The main event is give £5 to charity and get a
ride in the car of your choice around the track. Thanks to all those club
members who donated time and petrol. The choice of cars for punters included
TVR, Lotus, Lamborghini, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Viper, Porsche, VX220, Westfield
and GT40. What an array of cars, enough to make anyone?s spine tingle. The
day also included a model helicopter display, motor cycle display team,
mini motor bikes, aeroplane rides and much more. About 40 of us met at Watford
Gap services which turned a few heads at 8 o'clock in the morning.
TVRs
were in great demand especially the Cerbera's but we all spent as much time
on the track as we wanted and it was quite exhausting. We have been invited
back next year, so don?t miss out on an excellent family day. We raffled
a radio controlled Tuscan S on the day - a big thank you to Alan and Annette
for donating this ?
we raised £60 which was donated to Headway, the brain
injury charity which we have previously supported.
I know several other organised days out were enjoyed by our members - the
Griff growl, Rockingham Days of Thunder ? where Cliff was racing, the BBQ
at Staverton Golf Club and the ?S? meet.
Alan Boiardi attended the ?S?
meet and kindly forwarded this short piece, below.
What do you call a collection of S?s ?
A gaggle ?
A Brood ?
A Pride ?
Or simply one of the best events of this year (a bit of bias here as I own
an S).
Way back in the distant past there was a meeting called S Club Heaven and
for the last couple of years there was a desperate attempt to try and recreate
this event to no avail. However this year a brave number of volunteers
agreed to try and organise something .
The venue was chosen after much debate about where in the country it was
to be held, and luckily for me, ended up on my own doorstep in Northants
at the TVR Silverstone Dealers.
TVR Silverstone were glad to help and provided facilities and food and drink
and even provided some discounted services if you wanted them on the day
- they also arranged for the Sagaris to be available for everyone to drool
over.
The event took place on the 15th of August 2004 and a fantastic total of
72 "S" series cars covering the entire range attended.
I can honestly say this was probably the biggest collection of TVR ?S? series
cars in one location.
As well as having all the cars and the showroom to peruse, a drive out in
the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside was organised (but of course
not in convoy as this is illegal!) we all just happened to be going in the
same direction about the same time! About 49 took part in all and the rumble
site and noise was a joy to behold. Best laugh of the day must have been
going through a tiny little village and watching the look on the policewoman
face as 40+ TVR?s all trundled past, giving a little hoot as we drove past.
She looked up pretty sharpish, I bet her neck was aching after 40 or so
cars.
I can just imagine the communication over the radio
PC to CAD room "There's a noisy TVR travelling through xxx village"
CAD room to PC "What colour?"
PC to Cad room "err green, blue, red, silver, etc etc.
Thanks Alan.
About this time last year we started thinking about Le Mans. I don?t think
we will have use of Eddie?s van next year so we may not be able to take
as much equipment. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts let me know. We
are also organising
A day trip to France ? Oct 16th
Christmas Lunch, Staverton Golf Club ? Dec
Run out to the Cotswolds for lunch between Christmas and new year.
Remember we are now meeting the second Sunday in the month, lunchtimes at
Turnpike.
Look forward to seeing you all
Dennis
